FAQ

What is Tokyogetter?

Tokyogetter is a web-store dedicated to Japanese pop culture items and character goods. We began operations in the fiscal year 2006, and have since then exported a variety of goods all over the world.

What do you sell?

Our regular items include video games, rare art books, art prints, comic books, music, dvds, kimono, limited-run clothing, and non-perishable food items.

I am wondering about a custom order for something I would like specially bought in Japan. What should I do?

We are available for both private and corporate export and deputy services. We offer reasonable prices, low shipping rates, fast service, and years of experience.

Please contact us directly via the links on this page for more info about custom orders.

Who’s on your staff?

We have a staff of 5 people. 3 are in the US and 2 are in Japan. Email correspondence is handled by our stateside team.

Our fulfillment office is in the US, so that’s where we ship most of our orders from.

Where have you shipped to?

Tokyogetter has shipped dozens and dozens of orders to Europe, Australia, America, South America, and Oceania. We haven’t shipped to Antarctica yet, but we are super-stoked that the possibility may present itself one day.

What are doujinshi?

Fan-comics, basically meaning ‘comics made by the same people’ in Japanese. There are many good websites and communities set up for them, and Tokyogetter has been selling doujinshi for 2 years now to those communities. We have no intention of stopping. Doujinshi provide an interesting and striking take on Japan’s interaction with pop culture and not-so-pop culture, allowing something as simple as a series of fan-made drawings to radically re-work and thus re-define fan perceptions so that a new, more personal relationship with the original work may emerge.

What happened to your livejournal?

Still there! We do not do sales from the journal anymore, as we felt that we were running the risk of wearing out our welcome and that the sales system we had there was too time-consuming. Basically, we felt that being ’semi-pro’ in a fan community was a bit rude, and that we could give you better service via a store.

However, it’s a fun place, so we still post there.

What kind of shipping options are available?

We have several options available, including standard media mail as well as track-able insured mail. We ship all of our stock from a fortress of solitude located somewhere in upstate New York.

I would like to contact you for an article or interview. Is that cool?

Yes, please just use the contact links on our homepage. We promise a quick reply as long as we are credited.

Can you open that one book for me and take pictures?

Nope, sorry. We seal all of our books as soon as we buy them to prevent any kind of damage, as they are collector’s items and very few of them exist in general.

Will you sell or trade my contact info?

NEVER. Tokyogetter.com never sells info or trades your info.

What does R18 mean?

It means ‘restricted to ages 18 and over.’ Ie material that could be considered not suitable for minors. It is self-applied by Japanese comic groups and not by a censorship board, so standards may vary. No rights are given or implied for our books, however you must provide simple age verification for R18 books.
